BADGER LAKE
Badger Lake is located about 20 minutes east of Lomond Alberta on highway 539.
This lake has a boat launch on the west side of the lake near the Lions Building. Depths in this reservoir vary from throughout the lake. 45 feet is the deepest part of the lake I have found.
Badger contains Pike to 30 Plus pounds, perch, whitefish, and burbot. There are rumors that walleye exist in here as well but I have never caught or seen one caught.
Badger is home to an annual Ice Fishing Derby. It is held by the Badger Lake Fishing Derby Comity. The concession is ran by the Lomond Lions Club, the derby is held in February every year.
The winning fish in this tournament are usually over thirty pounds or real close to it.
This is the only ice fishing derby that I will NEVER miss as long as it is held. Good People and a good time. About 60 of my closest friends and I set up a camp on the lake and have a great time.
The 2011 23rd annual Badger Ice Fishing Derby will be held Febuary 25th, 26th and 27th. Tickets go on sale January 8th 2011 at 9:30 AM at the Lomond Community Center.
Although not technically in The County Of Newell, but it is one of my favorite lakes.
