Bow River
The portion of the Bow River I will talk about here is downstream of the Carsland Weir and continues through southern Alberta until the bow river joins the Oldman river near Grassy Lake to form the South Saskatchewan River.
There are far fewer Trout below the Carsland Weir than above but none the less the trout are worth catching. The Trout that are often pulled from the river between the Carsland Weir and the Bassano Dam are in the 10 to 12 pound range for rainbows and browns. In the river after the Bassano Dam trout sart to become very sparse and can be very hard to locate and hard to catch.
Below the Bassano Dam Pike and Walleye both to about 10 lbs are common, a few Trout and many Goldeye. Fishing large pools in the river often produce a few of every type of fish you can catch in the river. My wife often fishes for trout while I fish for walleye. Some days we both consistantly catch the fish we are after all day.
Sturgeon are caught near where the Bow and the Oldman River join each other and throughout the South Saskatchewan river.
River access can be gained where there are bridge crossings, at the Carsland/wyndam Campground, Bassano Dam. Many farmers and the Eastern Irrigation district won't mind you fishing, Just ask for permision.
