Camping related sporting good, what do you need to take on your outdoor trip.

I am not sure why it is but for me camping makes me feel totally free. Maybe it is not having the boundaries of walls and roads constantly forcing my thoughts and travels to go in an almost predetermined direction…….or it just makes me feel like a real man. Whatever the reason why wonder about it, lets just enjoy the great outdoors, nature, wildlife and everything that is this world that we live in.

So let’s get down to what I am going to talk about here. Sporting goods for campers.

Sometimes there are people that whether they do it in a campground or in the backcountry it can be for some unknown reason a stressful, terrible situation to be in. These people are city people. Let them be city people.

Other people love to camp, love nature, love wind, water, trees, and wildlife. These people are you and me, why else would I be writing this and you be reading this?

Once in a while I go camp near my home in South Central Alberta. If the forecast looks good and the temperature is nice and moderate I don’t mind taking a sleeping bag and a backpack filled with my basic necessities. That for me is good enough on the bald prairie where the most vicious create your bound to run into is a coyote that is afraid of everything but its own shadow.

When I go to the mountains, foothills, or any unfamiliar place things get a little more complicated. Equipment requirements change for most of us that venture into territory we are unfamiliar with.

Most people in North America now days are venturing out as a family, People go with a wife, kids and pets. I have seen people in the Crowsnest Pass with a parrot and rabbits.

There are a lot of items that are available for the purpose of living in the great outdoors. I am not going to get into RV'ing or 5th wheel trailer campers. This is about seting up a camp with tents in nature and roughing it.

So with that said, let’s get into sporting goods for the purpose of camping.

The most important thing for most people who want to venture out into the wild is a tent. People who don’t have a tent generally don’t camp. So here is what I have to say about tents.

I have a couple of different styles of tents. I have a large 12 man tent that I take camping with my wife and son. A 3 man tent that I take if only 2 people are going to camp and a single person mountain climbers tent I use when I am out in the wilderness alone.

MY TENT FOR SETTING UP MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME WITH THE FAMILY

When I am out with the family, me my wife and our son I take a 12 person 3 room style tent that works very well with a 3 year old boy. I would have never considered such a monster of a tent a few short years ago, then I got married and started to have kids. It is getting harder and harder to resist buying a big fancy trailer but for now, I still like to rough it, at least as much as possible when a child is with you.

When camping with kids there is always a lot more random stuff that goes with you on your trip. They need entertainment, toys, food, cloths, shoes, and you name it what else. That is the reason I purchased a big tent. That tent has a fly that forms a large “entry way”. I can store anything that isn’t to weather sensitive in there, Such as coolers, shoes, and toys. If you have a way of elevating what you have you can put anything you want in there. I also keep wet or moist cloths in there because wet or moist cloths make a tent really humid quickly.

MY TENT FOR HEADING OUT ALONE

If I am going on a fishing trip alone I take my single person mountain style tent. When I am camping alone it is usually when I take a long weekend fishing trip to the Coleman Alberta in the Crowsnest Pass. When I am camping I don’t typically stay in one place for to long, therefore I chose the mountain climbers tent. It is compact light weight and very easy to setup and take down.

It is small enough to easily transport on my backpack and doesn’t tire me out climbing to mountain streams and lakes. It is built very well, triple stitched seems all the way around and a neoprene layer between all the layers around the stitching. It is very strong in high winds and has never leaked once when I have been using it.

MY TENT FOR SETING UP CAMP WITH A FRIEND

If me and a friend are going to go hunting or fishing I take either my 3 person tent if they don’t have a small tent or I take my single person tent if they have a small tent. If I am heading to a campground I will take the 3 person tent almost all of the time, because I will be there for a few days and don’t mind setting it up and taking it down once. It is simply more convenient to have a larger tent in a campground, for storing your gear, coolers and such.
