CRAWLING VALLEY
Crawling Valley Reservoir is located 10 kilometers North East of Bassano. The boat launch is located in the recreation area and campground.
This prairie reservoir holds some great walleye in its waters. Certainly one of the best walleye fisheries in Alberta. This resevour has been featured on a few television shows for its walleye fishing. Two that I know of are Fishing Alberta and The Dimestore Fishermen. Dimestore Fishermen were suposed to do another show in 2007 near the end of the ice fishing season but warm weather and wind caused the ice to rot 4 weeks earlier than ussual.
There are also Northern Pike to thirty pounds, Perch, Whitefish, and lots of Burbot.
Occasionally trout also make there way in from the bow river.
This reservoir is now closed to night fishing due to suspected illegal harvest of walleye.
Crawling Valley is home to an ice fishing derby each winter, I believe 2009 would be the 6 year for this 2 day tournament. This takes place the first weekend in March typically. In 2010 the Crawling Valley Ice Fishing Derby will be held March 6th and 7th 2010.
The entry fee will be $30.00 and will take place on the first mile of the south end of the lake. Weight station will be 1/2 mile north of south dam.
Tickets will be available at the Crawling Valley campground boat launch and the weigh station on the lake.
