Are Ice Fishing Tents Right For Your Fishing Style

Ice fishing tents are not quite the luxury that an ice fishing house or shanty provide but none the less or a great option for the avid ice fisherman. An ice tent is used primarily for the dark and to keep you out of the wind and cold.

I use an ice fishing tent all the time. I take it with me even when I am out with my ice fishing house. By taking the tent with me when more guest drop by they can fish in a little more privacy or if the bite is slow I can go on the hunt for fish.

Most ice fishing tents or built with a composite frame with a heavy duty canvas covering. They are built so they fold and unfold and can be stored and transported inside a case. There are many styles of tents to choose from, I use an Eastman Ice Cube 4 person ice tent. It works great or me and a few friends.

They do not set up real easily in the wind but it is possible, two people make it much easier to set up in the wind.

I use an ice tent most often when I do not have vehicle access to the water I want to fish. Such as areas where I would have to cross a large expanse of ice that I am unfamiliar with, I will just go park on shore at the nearest point to where I want to fish and walk out with my gear. The tent makes for a much better day on the water.

I use a small portable propane heater in my tent, I keep it away from the walls, I have seen more than one ice tent that has burned up on the lake with a heater to close to the walls.

An ice tent is a great investment for any ice angler that wants to avoid the element and still have a great day on the hard water.

Thanks for reading.
