LAKE NEWELL
Lake Newell reservoir is located approximately 10 kilometers south of Brooks. There are boat launches at kinbrook Island Provincial park and the Resort Marina on the north west end of the lake.
This lake is home to Northern Pike in the 30 plus pound range and also contains walleye to 15 pounds. Perch, Whitefish and Burbot are there to be fished for as well.
Trout can often be caught near the North West inlet canal that flows in from the Bow River.
Lake Newell is one of the three lakes that walleye tags are available for in Alberta.
This reservoir is home to the annual Kiwanis ice fishing derby held every February. I believe 2010 is the seventeenth year for the ice fishing derby. Most years the winning pike is over thirty pounds. They also tag a few fish each year that if caught during the derby the fisherman gets a fishing trip. 2007 was the first year a tagged fish was ever caught during the tournament in 14 years.
In the summer the Brooks Elks Lodge #77 holds a fathers day fishing tournament. 2010 will be the 6th year for that particular tournament.
Use the map below to explore some of the lakes in the area, I have placemarked many of the lakes that contain good fish.
